Our research interests focus on the design, synthesis and functionalization of myriad precision, sequence-defined polymeric biomaterials with multiple dimensions, and their applications in a wide spectrum of biological fields. The goal of our research is to establish a comparable set of rules that can be utilized for the fabrication of precision, well-defined nanoscale delivery systems with controlled properties and functions, and optimized therapeutic efficacy. This will not only be fundamental science in its own right, relevant to a broad range of chemical problems, but it will also be a platform technology that can be implemented in numerous biological and materials applications.
Our research areas mainly include:
1. To establish a fully automatic flow chemistry synthesis platform for the production of myriad precision, sequence-defined natural/synthetic polymeric biomaterials;
2. To create a precision protein functionalization technology and aim at the design and development of functional protein bioconjugates, and precision control of their hierarchical architectures in solution via sequence-relevant noncovalent recognition, further achieving improved clinical immunotherapy;
3. To exploit a wide range of well-defined nonviral vectors for safe, efficient, and targeted delivery of therapeutic genes in vivo, further achieving comparable or even superior gene therapy efficiency than conventional viral vectors;
4. To fabricate one-dimensional, two-dimensional, sequence-defined conjugated polymeric materials for bioimaging in vivo and electronic devices.
